We’re super proud of Bert, our founder, who has been picked by Diplomático Rum and Foodism Magazine as one of three ‘Diplomats of a New Era’. Taking inspiration from ‘the man on the botttle’, Don Juancho Melendez, a passionate entrepreneur of his time, Diplomático wanted to find modern-day creatives who shared the same skill, passion and spirit.

 

As well as being splashed all over Foodism.co.uk and showcasing his knives at a swish London reader event, Bert was filmed for the campaign and even had a delicious cocktail created just for him.

Bert was whisked off in a whirl of Japanese flavours by cocktail magician and master bartender Jon Lister. After listening to Bert talk so passionately about TOG Knives Jon was inspired to create the Masamune cocktail which is a refined tipple: absolutely delicious and we can attest causes no hangovers despite the melange of spirits!

It mixes Tamagawa sake, Nikka whisky, Cocchi vermouth and Diplomático’s show-stopping aged rum, Reserva Exclusiva. It’s served in a clay sake mug along with a (TOG) sliced plum, burnt with a blowtorch, to add a touch of the forge to the cocktail.

MASAMUNE RECIPE

  • Makes: 1 cocktail
  • Preparation time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 45ml Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva
  • 15ml Cocchi di Torino
  • 15ml Tamagawa Heirloom Yamahai Genshu Red Label
  • 5ml Nikka Pure Malt Black
  • 2 dashes of peach bitters

Method:

Stir with ice in a mixing glass, then pour neat into a chilled coupe-style glass. Garnish with a burnt sliced plum.
